Summer Slump Sadness

Research from Health magazine points to various reasons why people feel more depressed in summer:

  • Summertime SAD (seasonal affective disorder)
  • Disruptions in your schedule during summer months
  • Body image issues
  • Financical concerns
  • The heat

If you’re an entrepreneur, being aware of your summer slump is very important. After all, you are the engine inside of your business. Here are some helpful tips to help you kiss your summertime blues goodbye.

1. Acknowledge that it’s normal

Sometimes knowing that your issue is not an isolated case helps you focus on solutions instead of feeling more depressed that this has happened to you at all. You are not the only one that feels like you’re in a slump in summer. Let that simple phrase provide you hope that you didn’t do anything wrong to get here.

2. Don’t feed it

Did you ever see the movie, Little Shop of Horrors? Don’t feed the slump Seymour. That’s right, if you believe the idea of summer should be fun is getting you down, but you can’t go on vacation right now because you’re putting all your extra money back in the business, then take a social media summer break. Social media is known as the place people post the aspirational version of themselves. Don’t believe the hype. Taking time off of social media could boost your spirits.

3. Just keep swinging

Hank Aaron said, “My motto was always keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging.”

As entrepreneurs we have to keep going. Acknowledge our feeling, don’t feed it and just keep swinging.
